Cleaning, Disinfection, Sterilization & Maintenance Instructions
Manufacturer: Hash Surgical Product Category: Surgical & Dental Instruments Manufacturer & Exporter: Hash Surgical / Javed Sons
1. Warnings & Precautions
Instruments are supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before use according to the following instructions. Avoid acidic and alkaline detergents. Always use a neutral pH (7) detergent or solution. Do not exceed 134°C or the maximum temperature specified for the instrument. Remove all packaging before cleaning and sterilization. Handle contaminated instruments with gloves and eye protection.
2. Limitations of Reprocessing
Repeated processing has minimal effect on these instruments when proper procedures are followed. End of life is normally determined by wear and damage due to use. Never clean color-etched probes or black composite instruments in ultrasonic baths unless approved for the specific instrument.
3. Point of Use
Remove all excess soil using a disposable cloth or paper wipe immediately after use. Prevent blood and tissue from drying on the instruments.
4. Containment & Transportation
Protect delicate and fine instruments from damage. Instruments should be reprocessed as soon as reasonably practical after use. Instruments left wet for prolonged periods may stain or corrode.
5. Preparation for Cleaning
No specific preparation is required unless stated for the instrument. Disassembly is not required unless applicable. Immediately after use, rinse instruments under warm water. Use a nylon brush for joints and serrated areas. Remove all blood, body fluids, and tissue.
If immediate cleaning is not possible, submerge instruments in water and neutral pH (7) detergent according to the detergent instructions. Never place instruments in saline solution, as it may cause corrosion and permanent damage.
6. Ultrasonic Cleaning
For micro and delicate instruments, use manual cleaning. Process instruments in the ultrasonic cleaner for the recommended cycle time, usually 5–10 minutes where validated. Place instruments in an open position and ensure they are fully submerged. Sharp blades must not touch other instruments. Avoid placing incompatible metals together. Change the cleaning solution regularly.
7. Automatic Washer Sterilization
Follow the washer manufacturer’s recommendations. Ensure instruments are properly cleaned, rinsed, and lubricated where required before sterilization.
8. Manual Cleaning
Allow instruments to dry completely. Store them in a clean and dry environment if they are not being sterilized immediately.
9. After Cleaning
Allow instruments to dry completely. Store them in a clean and dry environment if they are not being sterilized immediately.
10. Autoclaving & Maintenance
Lubricate instruments with metal-to-metal action, such as scissors, hemostats, needle holders, and retractors, using a suitable surgical instrument lubricant. Do not use WD-40, industrial oil, or unsuitable lubricants.
Place instruments individually or in sets for autoclaving, following the applicable sterilization instructions.
11. Inspection and Function Testing
Inspect instruments to ensure all contamination has been removed. Check for distortion, damage, corrosion, and wear. Cutting edges must be free from defects. Discard damaged or malfunctioning instruments. Ensure detachable tips are secure.
12. Drying
Dry instruments using clean paper towels, lint-free cloths, or suitable drying equipment. Do not exceed the temperature limits specified for the instrument and drying process.
13. Packaging for Sterilization
Instruments may be placed in suitable instrument trays or sterilization pouches. Protect cutting edges and delicate tips.
Individual Instruments: Use suitable paper or plastic pouches. Instruments with ratchet locks, such as needle holders and hemostats, should be placed in an open and unlocked position.
Instrument Sets: Unlock all instruments and sterilize them in an open position. Place heavy instruments carefully to avoid damage. Do not overload the autoclave. Ensure steam can reach all instrument surfaces. Use suitable trays and packaging compatible with the sterilization cycle.
14. Sterilization
Sterilization parameters, including time, pressure, and temperature, depend on the sterilizer, instruments, and packaging. Always follow the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions and the validated cycle for the instruments.
Steam Autoclave: Use the recommended cycle for compatible instruments. Ensure the complete sterilization and drying cycle is finished before removing packs. Store sterilized instruments in a clean and dry area. Wet, torn, or contaminated packs must be reprocessed.
Pre-Vacuum Autoclaves (Class B / Type B): Follow the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions for temperature, exposure time, loading, and drying. Confirm instrument compatibility before processing.
Dry-Heat Sterilization: Use only for instruments and packaging materials compatible with validated dry-heat procedures. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Chemical Vapor Sterilization: Use approved chemical vapor sterilizers and compatible instruments according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cold Sterilization: Chemical immersion methods must be selected according to instrument compatibility and intended use. Some solutions may cause corrosion or damage. For tungsten carbide inserts, avoid solutions that are not approved for use with these materials.
